John Howard Pierce Photograph Exhibit
July 26, 2013 through January 11, 2014
The John Howard Pierce Photograph Collection is the subject of a Lyman Museum special exhibit that opened on July 26, 2013 and runs through January 11, 2014. It follows the Museum’s acclaimed Sasana exhibit that closed on May 25, 2013.
John Howard Pierce was an avid photographer who meticulously documented life on Hawai`i Island as a reporter for the Hawai`i Tribune-Herald. The Museum acquired tens of thousands of his surviving photographic prints and negatives in 2007 and is privileged to have such an historically important collection under its stewardship.
The exhibit provides a small sample of the depth and breadth of the collection. It features 29 black-and-white photographs taken from 1958 to 1969. A slide show of more photographs is also on exhibit.
