HILO, Hawai`i (March 8, 2013) — The Lyman Museum’s special exhibit “Sasana: The Burma Portfolio,” is now extended for public viewing through May 25, 2013. “Sasana,” meaning acts of kindness, is a collection of large-format black and white photographs of Burma’s people, landscape, and local culture taken by Dr. Steven Garon, a volunteer with Aloha Medical Mission.

Aloha Medical Mission provides healthcare services to the underserved peoples in the Pacific, Asia, and here in Hawai`i. Dr. Steven Garon has been capturing images of the people and local culture of Burma (Republic of the Union of Myanmar) on his vintage Linhof view camera since 2006. The result is a story of humanity and compassion that is timely and universal in scope.

The nationally-accredited and Smithsonian-affiliated Lyman Museum, located at 276 Haili Street in Hilo, is open Monday through Saturday, 10:00 a.m.-4:30 p.m.  For admission rates and additional information, call (808) 935-5021 or visit www.lymanmuseum.org.
