Talk Story with Dana Benner: Northeastern Woodland and Native Hawaiian Cultures
Friday, June 8, 7:00–8:30 p.m. Historian and writer Dana Benner, a former resident of these Islands, brings knowledge of his own Native American ancestry and his ongoing learning about Native Hawaiian culture to this compelling talk story session. Of Micmac/Penobscot/Piqwacket descent, and a member of the New Hampshire Inter-Tribal Council, Dana has been a lifelong student of Native cultures and has been writing about them for more than 25 years. Through his many lectures and articles he has shared the history of Native American peoples on the eve of European contact and settlement, including their extensive social traditions, trade relations, and industrious nature. Dana’s current research and learning endeavors focus on Native Hawaiian culture. Tonight he talks about the similarities he sees between the Hawaiian and Northeastern Woodland cultures, and asks for your feedback on his observations. $3; Museum members free.
