Learn how the first plants, animals, and humans adapted and created unique habitats, and how the human settlers recast their ancestral tales to include Hawaii’s plants and animals.
Ma’I Lepera: Disease and Displacement in 19th-Century Hawai’i

An unprecedented look at a significant moment in Hawaii’s history, the Hansen’s disease outbreak of 1865-1900. Dr. Kerri Inglis of UH-Hilo explores her bok Ma’i Lepera and the narratives of those inhabiting a remote Moloka’i settlement as they struggled with the disease. Ma’i Lepera is being sold at the Museum Shop, and a book signing will follow the event.
